We are currently buying work from talented photographers worldwide.

How do I become a Cavan Photographer?
Follow this link to our application page for new photographers. Here you can send us imagery that best represents what you are capable of and what your interests are. If we like what we see we'll send you an Artist Agreement so you can get started earning money with Cavan. We appreciate your patience as it can take up to 3 weeks to hear back from us.

What should I shoot?
Join our Facebook page and take a look at our gallery for an overview of what we're interested in. In general we are looking for authentic, aspirational, lifestyle imagery. There are endless ways to approach such a broad range of material and we encourage our photographers to interpret this idea as they see fit. We do offer creative briefs and direction to help our photographers get the most out of their shooting.

Do I need to retouch or keyword my imagery?
Nope, we take care of all of that for you.

How long does it take for an edit?
Approximately 3 weeks.

How long does it take to get paid?
It takes about 10 days from the time we get the final RAW files and necessary releases.

What cameras are acceptable?
Any cameras that shoot RAW imagery are acceptable at this time.

I understand Cavan Images will be buying the copyright to images I decide to sell, but what exactly does that mean?
Cavan Images will be the sole copyright holder of any image you decide to sell to us. This means that you will not be able to license or resell these images, or similar images, on your own - However, you may still use the pictures for your own self-promotion and fine-art needs.

What are "Fine-art" uses?
We allow you to retain the right to use any images we may purchase from you as fine-art objects. This fine-art usage is defined as 'Limited Edition, Numbered Prints'. This would also include the use of your work in a fine-art book where any image(s) itself is the subject.

What are considered proper 'Self-Promotional' Uses?
You have the right to use any images we purchase from you for any self-promotional needs like; your website, print portfolio, marketing mailings, business cards, editorial articles about you and your work etc... As long as you're using the image to draw attention to your business as a photographer that's fine.

I am already a contributor at another agency is there a conflict?
Not at all. Many of Cavan Image's photographers are signed with other angencies as well. You need to be careful, however, that you do not submit the same or similar imagery that is currently represented by another agency. You also may not submit imagery to another agency that is the same or similar to images we have previously purchased from you.

What are 'similar' images?
Any images whose principal elements are depicted in a way that, when compared side by side with other images, would cause someone to believe they are substantially the same. In other words; If you are shooting the same models in the same clothes in the same location under the same lighting conditions doing the same activities those images are going to be similar. If we were to choose to purchase one of the images from this particular set up you would not be able to market the other similars on your own. Please reach out to us anytime and we'll help you determine which images may be similar to ones we have purchased.

Do I need releases for my imagery?
Any images with people or property in them need a Cavan Images model release or property release. You can download the Cavan Model Release here and Cavan Property Release here.  If any of the people in an image are younger than 18 years there is a section on the release for a parent or guardian to give permission. *Contact us for releases in additional languages.
When exactly are model releases required?
Model releases are required any time there are identifiable people or parts of people in your shots. If even one other person can identify your subject you need a release. The main exception is travel related imagery that shows large, 'naturally occuring' crowds that do not single out any individuals. For ex; a crowded beach scene or crowded city streets. Models under the age of 18 require parental consent. Contact us if you have any additional questions about using the model release.

When exactly are property releases required?
Property releases are required whenever there is identifiable, privatley owned property in a shot. Primarilly this concerns private dwellings, businesses and artwork. Interiors of private dwellings and businesses also require a release if they are easily identifiable as well. An exception is when a shot contains multiple private dwellings/ businesses none of which are the focus of the image. For ex; a suburban street or urban vista. Contact us if you have any additional questions about using the property release.

What do you do with the imagery you've purchased?
We work with various marketing partners to license our collection to advertising and editorial image buyers.

Will I be sharing in any royalties generated from future sales of my imagery?
We pay for the images upfront and do not offer portions of possible future revenue.

Can I get the retouched imagery back for my portfolio?
You are welcome to have our final retouched files back for approved fine art and self promotional uses. We cannot guarantee a specific time frame for the final imagery, but they'll be available as soon as they're retouched.

I'm already a Cavan Photographer, how do I submit new work?
Bookmark this account log-in link to access your account and upload new work. Alternatively, there is a link at the top of every page on our site.
You've accepted a number of images from my submission, where do I upload the RAW files and releases?
You will upload the RAW files and releases with the same link for new submissions. We will arrange for you to upload the RAW files to a private FTP folder if there are a large number of selects.

I was approved as a Cavan photographer but you are not interested in purchasing any imagery that I applied with. Why not?
Many times we will approve a photographer based on our feel for that particualr photographer's potential-not always because of an immediate interest in the application imagery. In these cases we are interested in seeing what that photographer can do when shooting with our direction.

I was not approved as a Cavan photographer. Can I re-apply with new work?
Yes! We encourage photographers to keep shooting and try again in the future. Join us on Facebook and watch our photo gallery - we will be updating both with new work and information that will help you fine tune your imagery for your future application.
